Feeling that chill in the air? It may be a cold front, or it might just be Manhattan University’s (MU) student body bringing the Halloween chills and thrills with campus costumes! MU students all around campus dressed in their most terrifying regalia for club meetings, extra credit assignments or just to show off their creativity. Some students kept it cool and less costly by repurposing items to create a fun costume, and all embodied the holiday spirit.

The History Club hosted a costume contest on Oct. 28, which The Quadrangle attended. Various members spoke to the paper and provided a run-down of their Halloween costumes.

Juliette Chartrand ‘27, psychology major

The Quadrangle: What is your costume today?

Juliette Chartrand: Today I am JFK Jr. wearing his “I Told Ya” T-shirt. Really iconic, if you ask me.

TQ: What inspired your costume?

JC: What inspired this was one year my roommate and I went as the Challengers [Luca Guadagnino’s 2024 film] people, so I had the T-shirt already, and I’ve seen the JFK Jr. TV show made by Ryan Murphy [Love Story on FX]m and was like, you know what? I will make a cheap and easy costume and repurpose it.

TQ: Is this what your Halloween night costume is going to be?

JC: No. I have multiple costumes as I’m trying to go out multiple nights. One night I’m doing Mario and something else, to be determined.

Ryan Cummings ‘27, history major

The Quadrangle: What is your costume today?

Ryan Cummings: I’m just a priest.

TQ: What inspired your costume?

RC: This isn’t my first time dressing up as a member of the clergy – and I have for a multitude of Dr. Edwards’ [Jennifer Edwards, Ph.D., history professor] classes – so I thought it’d be on brand.

TQ: Is this what your Halloween night costume is going to be?

RC: On Friday night I will be going as a priest, and on Saturday my roommates and I are going as our Mario Kart mains. So I’ll be Bowser, some of them will be Luigi, Yoshi, Donkey Kong…It’ll be great.

Molly Gilmartin ‘27, history major

The Quadrangle: What are you dressed as today?

Molly Gilmartin: I’m a black cat because I already had the ears, and it was kind of easy.

TQ: What inspired this costume?

MG: I already had the ears from Halloween a couple years ago, and I just came from a doctor’s appointment, and I knew that I wanted to dress as something…

TQ: Is this what your Halloween night costume is going to be?

MG: No. I’m not going to dress up as a cat. I’m going to be a ladybug, Mario and Superman.

Jack Ryan 27’, history major

TQ: What are you dressed as today?

Jack Ryan: I’m a ‘90s ‘Grateful Dead’ fan with the iconic flannel and tour T-shirt.

TQ: What inspired this costume?

JR: My dad’s closet is quite a bounty, and I was taking full advantage today for this costume.

TQ: Is this what your Halloween night costume will be?

JR: Remains to be seen…

Andre Comrie 27’

TQ: What are you dressed as today?

Andre Comrie: I’m dressed as [a character from the movie] White Chicks.

TQ: What inspired this costume?

AC: This was kind of a last minute pick, not going to lie. I was looking up some costumes and was like, ‘Wait, let me do something funny for this year.’ Because freshman year I did the Founding Fathers. Sophomore year I did Tyler, the Creator. Junior year I did [Chris Tucker] from Rush Hour, and now White Chicks.

TQ: Is this what your Halloween night costume will be?

AC: This is Halloween night’s costume. I’m not rich enough to afford more than one.
