Jasper Jams: Staying Uplifted

 Lois Boateng, Contributor

If you ask anyone who knows me, I am the biggest lover of music, especially Christian and Afrobeats. Since the beginning of the semester, I’ve been really into uplifting and empowering songs that keep me motivated and help me stay on my feet. As a college student, I tend to sometimes lose myself in my books and the business of everyday life, but listening to these songs keeps me going. I hope you enjoy my mini playlist of these songs.

Joy On My Account by Lawrence Oyor

I discovered this song this year and instantly fell in love with it. The meaning behind it explains true joy and how it is rooted in God’s goodness. This song encourages me to remain in joy, when times are tough and I may feel like my life isn’t going in the right direction, but especially during the times in the semester when it gets hard and the work can be too much.

Favorite lyrics: So much joy, joy, joy, in the heavens/there’ll be joy/There’ll be joy on my account

New Every Morning by Ryan Ofei

This song is my favorite on this list! This song explains how God’s love and mercies are renewed every single day, and I listen to it almost every day. Once I wake up and I’m getting ready for the day, I blast this song to set the mood. Whenever I listen to this song, it gets better every time and honestly, it’s one of my all-time favorite songs. I want to meet Ryan Offei, his vocal range is incredible. I enjoy the way the song builds up, layer by layer, creating a powerful atmosphere. It’s the kind of song that makes you feel uplifted and grateful, no matter what challenges you’re facing.

Favorite lyrics: How consistent You are / Lord, how patient You are/Love unfailing has found its way to me/ How consistent You are/ Lord, how patient You are

Love unfailing has found its way to me.

Joy Is Coming- Fido

Joy is Coming is one of those songs you can’t help but vibe to the moment it starts playing. It’s upbeat, energetic and instantly lifts your mood. The beat makes you want to dance, and the rhythm is so catchy that once it comes on, it’s impossible to sit still. It reminds me of those songs you hear at a wedding or party where even all the aunties and uncles can’t resist getting up to dance. There is also a message in this song that speaks to holding on, because joy is always on the way, which makes the song even more interesting to listen to.

Favorite lyric: Put on your shoe, make you stand at ease/ All your sorrow, make you dance dem free/ If e no be Galala Galala, ye!”

KU LO SA- Oxlade

I recommend listening to this song on Colors’ youtube channel.  From the moment the beat drops, it pulls you in and keeps the energy going. The live performance of this song makes it ten times better than the track. You can feel the vibe, rhythm, and passion behind the music. I really love how the beat builds up and layers with vocals, creating a refreshing sound. Everytime I listen to the song, it just gets better and better. This is one of my favorite afrobeats songs, hands down. It’s that party song that definitely sets the mood. This song is definitely a reminder to let loose, have fun and find happiness even in the middle of stress or challenges.

Favorite lyrics: I never trade you for nothing/This love will make me dey champ I see/ Without you I no fit do nothing /I never trade you for nothing (I never trade you baby)
