LETTER from the EDITOR

Dear Readers,

Hello, and welcome to Issue 3!

This week has certainly been a busy one, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. On Tuesday, the Manhattan University campus welcomed esteemed alumnus James Patterson ‘69 to campus, to kick off the Speaker Series facet of the new James Patterson Honors Program. I had the privilege of sitting down and speaking with Mr. Patterson, and it was a truly wonderful experience getting to hear his stories and passion for the JPHP program. Even more wonderful was having a few of our amazing members of masthead by my side in the press room, which was an experience we rarely get to share together.

This all being said, we have two articles in Issue 3 about last week’s headline event. One is a Q&A from our campus exclusive article with Mr. Patterson, and the other covers the event as a whole, including the moderated discussion, student Q&A and book signing. Be sure to check both out!

As I mentioned last week, Manhattan Caucus is back publishing weekly once again. I think it’s an appropriate understatement to say that it’s been a busy week for news as well, but we’ve done our best to try to break down the stories from the week that will most affect you and your families going forward day-to-day.

On this note, I bring back my weekly reminder to stay tuned in with both your physical and mental health, with a special emphasis on the second part of that statement this week. In addition to September marking Suicide Prevention Month, most of us are likely well-aware of upsetting and graphic videos that hit the internet this week, and it’s important to take care of yourselves in whatever way works best for you. Make plans with friends, splurge on your favorite latte and get outside to breathe some fresh air. And if you’re ever feeling a little more down than caffeine and a dose of sunlight can fix, remember that there is always strength in seeking help. For those on campus, the counseling center can be reached by phone at (718) 862-7394 or by email at jegan01@manhattan.edu. For everyone, both on and off campus, 988 is the national suicide and crisis lifeline. More resources for specific groups can be found here.

As for the rest of Issue 3, we have a packed week for you. In news, we cover James Patterson, the new associate dean of the OMSB and MU’s new Flex Start program. In features, we bring you an overview of APP’s rush week and some impressive radiological and health sciences students balancing clinicals and coursework this semester. In A&E, we talk all things Manhattan Magazine as they begin working on their fall issue and have a seasonal Jasper Jams for you. Lastly, in sports, we cover men’s soccer in Battle of the Bronx and bring you a traditional Games of the Week overview. Be sure to check it all out!

Until next time,
