Men’s Cross Country
The Jaspers hosted their annual XC invitational meet in Montgomery, NY. on Saturday morning. With 15 other teams joining MU, it proved to be a good point to see where the Jaspers stand against their competition.
The men’s team placed 13th out of the 16 teams there, scoring 22 points better than MAAC rival Saint Peters. The team was led by sophomore Joshua Mingoia, who placed 77th overall with a time of 26:46. Following him were Brody Cox, Jack Flanagan, Colby Micheels and Lukas Paunovic. They placed 78th, 83rd, 90th and 98th, respectively.
The team will next compete in the Paul Short run on Oct. 3, which will be hosted by Lafayette College.
Women’s Cross Country
The Manhattan University women’s cross country team competed in the same Jaspers Fall XC Invitational as the men’s team. The women placed 11th overall for the meet and saw some impressive individual placements within the team.
Mikaella Martin led the Jaspers yet again, and was able to secure 8th place overall. Her final time was 21:11, which put her almost within a minute of the race winner, freshman Shaelan McNally of Bucknell, who won with a time of 20:08.
Following Martin was Bailee Christofis, Paula Pakkares, Julia Hendricks and Bella Cannizzo. They placed 58th, 73rd, 76th and 106th, respectively.
The women will also next compete at the Paul Short run in early October.
Men’s Golf
MU men’s Golf competed in the Sacred Heart University Fall Classic on Sept. 8 and 9. With a tough course and competition, they were able to grab 4th place out of the field.
Sophomore Cabell Faulkner set the pace for the Jaspers throughout the tournament. He had an almost perfect day one, leading him to finish the day one-under par. He continued this pace, even netting an eagle on round three of the tournament. He finished the days +3 over par.
An additional helper for the Jaspers was Aidan Talent, finishing the tournament at +7. He played to par for most of the tournament, with no one round sticking out from the others. He started the tournament with three pars, including a birdie on the 6th hole.
After the tournament, Coach Keith Prokop spoke highly of the Jaspers and the performance during the tournament.
“We are getting close,” Prokop said in an article published on gojaspers.com. “We are one score away from competing at our best level. If we can post a fourth score, clean up our par five scoring and our tee shots we will be in great shape.”
The Jaspers’ next tournament will begin Monday, Sept. 22, as they compete in the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Collegiate, hosted by Fairfield University at the Wethersfield County Club.
