The second the clock turned from 11:59 p.m. on October 31st to 12:00 a.m. on November 1st, my suite-mate started listening to Christmas music. I actually think she probably started listening to Christmas music before Halloween even happened.
I, for one, think early November is too early to listen to Christmas music because then I get tired of it when Christmas actually rolls around. The problem is, there’s no real seasonal music to listen to in the interim, there’s no Thanksgiving music.
If we’re being honest, I’m not a huge fan of Thanksgiving. Maybe it’s the controversial history behind the holiday, maybe it’s that I hate turkey, maybe it’s both. I still think that skipping over it and jumping right into the Christmas thing can be a little excessive.
For this Jasper Jams, I’ve set out to find Thanksgiving music for you. While I’ve found there are few songs actually about Thanksgiving, there are some that do exist and there are plenty of songs about thanking people in our lives, being grateful and expressing it.

Thanksgiving Day – Ray Davies (This song is not available on Spotify)
Ray Davies is an English singer, songwriter, and musician but he still decided to write a Thanksgiving song sometime during his long career. I’m actually really a fan of this song and will totally add this to my personal playlist.
The Thanksgiving Filter – Drive-by Truckers
Drive-by Truckers is an alternative country/Southern rock group that seems to have a soft spot for the occasional holiday song, as they’ve got one (slightly inappropriate) Christmas song in their repertoire too. This Thanksgiving song looks behind, around and ahead (to Christmas time).
It’s Thanksgiving – Nicole Westbrook
This song is very “Friday” by Rebecca Black reminiscent and while some may find this song incredibly annoying, I actually think it’s a very fun and humorous holiday song. Every holiday gets a funny song, so why should Thanksgiving be an exception?
It’s Thanksgiving For Everybody – Bob’s Burgers
I wasn’t expecting to find much Thanksgiving music, but I was even more surprised that I found some from Bob’s Burgers. Maybe that sentence just gave away the fact that I haven’t seen Bob’s Burgers but it was important for you to know how much joy finding this song brought me.
Because You Loved Me – Celine Dion
While this song isn’t a Thanksgiving song, this song is about appreciating and being grateful for someone, which is what Thanksgiving is about, sort of.
Gratitude – Earth, Wind and Fire
Who doesn’t love Earth, Wind and Fire? Who doesn’t love songs about being grateful? Who doesn’t love when those two things mix?
Thankful For – Adam Sanders
A nice way to wrap up this playlist: a sweet and simple song about being thankful for the simple things in life, which is a great way to sum up the mood of the season.
