Four more years of Mas

Well, this’ll eliminate some of the potential noise which was potentially forthcoming about whether or not Steve Masiello, head men’s basketball coach, would remain at Manhattan College.

In an official announcement, Manhattan and Masiello have agreed to a four-year contract extension.

The news was first reported by ESPN’s Jeff Goodman at 11:10 a.m. Thursday.

About an hour later, Joshua Newman, Asbury Park (N.J.) Press sports reporter and SNY contributor, confirmed through one his own sources exactly how many years was a “multi-year contract extension.”

Both Masiello and Tom O’Connor, interim director of athletics, addressed the news in a press release.

“I am very happy about the opportunity to continue to lead the Men’s Basketball Team at Manhattan College,” Masiello said. “I am grateful for the commitment shown by the administration to me and to the program, and I am excited to build on our success in the coming years.”

“We are delighted to have a coach of Steve’s caliber on board for four more years,” O’Connor said. “He is an excellent teacher of basketball and we look forward to continued success in the future.”

The announcement comes just a few hours before Manhattan tips off the first round of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament against Marist in the first game toward an attempt at winning a third straight title.
