Just a few days after a heartbreaking loss to the defending champs Louisville in the NCAA tournament, Manhattan head coach Steve Masiello is considering taking the head coaching job at the University of South Florida, according to Gary Parrish from CBSSports.com.

The Manhattan College athletic department did not return text messages confirming or denying the reports.

Rick Pitino told the Tampa Bay Times that Masiello had asked him about the job.

Pitino told Masiello, “I said ‘For you, it’s a grand slam.'”

USF former head coach Stan Heath was dismissed after finishing 12-20 in the American Athletic Conference. The school has qualified for the NCAA tournament once in the past 22 years.

Manhattan is coming off its first 25-win season since 2004. That was also the last time that Manhattan made the tournament.

The Quadrangle Twitter page (@mcquad) will have updates throughout the week on Masiello’s decision.
